James Haug:
James was a 3-year letterman and varsity 8 rowing Western Washington University and a 1-year letterman and varsity 8 rowing at University of Washington. He was all conference his senior year at UW. He competed in Ladies Plate Henley in the UW varsity and was second in the straight pair Canadian Henley in 1991. He trained in the single and sweep for the U.S. national team in 1991-1992 and was 18th in the US in the single at the first of three speed orders for national team trials for the 1992 Olympic year.
His coaching experience includes coaching the Episcopal Academy high school girls team in Marion PA, who were ranked first in the county in open varsity 4+. Most of the team members went to college on rowing scholarships. In 1993 he helped start a program at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, where he coached college men and women. The brand-new team raced in four New England regional regattas and both men and women made the final in the New England championship regatta in the 4+. In 1994 he coached the novice rowers at George Washington University in Washington DC.
James is an Orcas Island resident and parent of two Orcas Island school students.
Jake Zier:
Jake is an Orcas Islander who rowed with the junior team at Orcas Island Rowing Association while in high school. Jake attended and rowed for the University of Washington in 2014-2017. During that time, he achieved 3 varsity letters, and 4 National Championships. He was invited to the Men’s Under 23 National Selection Camp and Senior Team Selection Camp. He rowed in winning Men’s 4+ Prince Albert Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta and rowed in the winning Men’s Championship 8+ at the Head of the Charles.
Jake served as an Orcas Island Rowing Association Assistant Coach in 2017-2018.
His certifications include CPR, Oxygen, First Aid, Neuro Assessment, and Hazardous Marine Life Certified (March 4, 2024); TCCC-CLS Tier 2 (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) (February 2023) and he is a Class 2 Swim Certified (Rescue Swimmer)
Ana Delucchi:
Ana is also an Orcas Islander who rowed with the junior team at Orcas Island Rowing Association while in high school. She trained and competed as a scholarship member of the Gonzaga University Varsity Women’s Rowing Team in 2015-2019, serving as Team Captain in 2018-2019. During her tenure there that Division I Rowing team achieved a program best 15th in nation. She was a member of the Gonzaga University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as a representative for Women’s Rowing on committee that influenced NCAA legislation. She was Volunteer Chair from 2016-2018 and coordinated SAAC efforts with a team of over 50 women, organizing development/fundraising volunteer efforts and helping raise $90,000 towards program goals.
Ana has served as the Lead Remote Coach for Hydrow, Inc., and was the Assistant Rowing Coach at Holy Names Academy in Seattle, WA in September 2019-June 2021. While there she coached high school athletes to success at Youth National Championships (2021) as well as 2 Northwest Regional Championships Team Points Champions. She coached sculling through the Covid-19 pandemic, and JV/Varsity 8+ in the 2021 season. She has also coached middle school and early high school sculling development with Seattle Scullers, and for five years served as a rowing coach with Lake Union Crew where she coached Learn to Row Summer Camp as well as Master’s Competitive scullers and Master’s Sweep and Scull Beginners.
Ana was a member of the Peruvian National Rowing Team in 2018 and was a member of the Peruvian Athletics Sport Federation. She is certified as a U.S. Rowing Level 2 coach and holds US Rowing SafeSport certification.
