I live on the west side of East Sound about 2 miles south of Eastsound village. I keep my yellow Maas 24 called Koan down on a bluff about 25 feet above the beach.
I seems to me that August and September are blustery months around Orcas. I got up at 5:30 on Monday morning to row over to a friends house past Obstruction pass and almost to Doe Bay. That would have been a 10 miler one way. But I got out on the water ad turned back after a quarter mile. It was already rough and getting rougher. Disappointing but the wind really picked up later in the day so I was very glad I turned back. On Thursday I woke up around 6:30 and the water looked good. So on the spur of the moment I decided to row to Doe Bay and back which is a 10 mile round trip. This time all went well. There was an annoying head wind for a couple of miles near the end but otherwise a smooth row. Just what I needed as I haven’t had much time on the salt water over the summer.
